NHS Lanarkshire benefits from ‘data on the move’ using Morse EPR app

NHS Lanarkshire is the third largest health board in Scotland. It serves a population of 655,000 across rural and urban communities in Lanarkshire. The organisation employs around 12,000 staff working in communities, health centres, clinics and offices and at three district general hospitals – University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Monklands and University Hospital Wishaw. NHS Lanarkshire is committed to delivering high quality, innovative health and social care that enables everyone to live longer, healthier lives at home, or in a homely setting.

  • NHS Lanarkshire was looking for a solution to solve the common problem of how to provide efficient, accurate and secure mobile patient records to healthcare professionals working in the community, away from their normal place of work and often in low or non-signal areas.

    Top challenges:

    • To support community healthcare staff with reliable ‘data on the move’ in a sustainable way

    • To spend less time on administration and travelling

    • To devote more time to caring for patients and strengthening patient services

    • To improve patient safety through complete, up-to-date patient records

    • To enhance communications between healthcare professionals

  • NHS Lanarkshire took the decision to adopt the Morse mobile app from Cambric Systems.

The app was already successfully installed at three of the five Multi-disciplinary Information System (MiDIS) consortium areas covering Dumfries & Galloway, Fife, Highland, Lanarkshire and Tayside.

The 3-phase implementation will support District Nursing Services including long-term conditions and palliative care, Children & Family Services and Mental Health & Addictions across the county where users plan to utilise the technology as an Electronic Patient Record (EPR) and Patient Management System (PMS).

  • Key highlights:

    • Time savings – streamlining processes for data access and data entry off-line and via a mobile device saves administrative as well as travel time

    • More time to devote to patient care – improves staff morale and job satisfaction

    • Increased patient safety through more complete and up-to-date patient records

    • Improved patient services such as fast electronic appointment scheduling

    • Enhanced communication between healthcare professionals promotes joined-up care
