NHS Dumfries and Galloway deploys Morse ERP app to support community staff and meet Scottish Government requirement for evidence-based patient care

NHS Dumfries and Galloway (NHS D&G) serves a population of over 148,000 within a large geographical area of about 2,400 square miles. The Health Board employs around 4,500 staff excluding GPs and Dentists.

NHS D&G aims to deliver excellent care that is person-centred, safe, effective, efficient and reliable. It also works closely with other communities and partner organisations to reduce health inequalities across the region.

  • NHS Dumfries and Galloway was looking for a solution that would allow community staff to access and share information quickly and efficiently using their iPads and other mobile devices. Top challenges:

    • To provide community healthcare staff with instant access to up-to-date patient records when visiting patients often in remote areas

    • To enable staff to share clinical information with other team members when they are out and about

    • To save travel time, increasing time for patient care

    • To reduce administration and duplication of data entry between systems

    • To create one, easy-to-use system for a broad and increasing range of healthcare professionals at NHS D&G

  • After considering a variety of different solutions, NHS Dumfries and Galloway adopted the Morse ERP mobile app from Cambric Systems. The organisation was already using the Topas Hospital Administration System, also from Cambric. Today, over 1,000 healthcare professionals at NHS D&G use Morse to access the latest patient and clinical data remotely.

  • Key highlights:

    • Time savings – staff have all the information they need without travelling back and forth to the office

    • One single system – for diaries and appointments, patient records, staff notes and complete caseloads

    • Increased clinical efficiencies – secure transfer of images between GPs and hospital consultants aims to massively reduce the number of face-to-face appointments

    • Meets Scottish Government requirement for evidence-based patient care

    • Easy to use while reducing duplication and administrative tasks for busy clinicians

    • Remote access to critical data helps maintain staff social distancing during pandemic

    • Promotes collaboration with other Scottish Health Boards, health and social care partners

“We used to work ‘in the dark’ out in the community but with Morse we don’t now!”
